Project Management: How Important Is It to You and Your Company?

Do you have projects every year that fall short of expectations with regards to scope, schedule, budget performance, or other metrics?
How often is rework performed because something wasn’t done right the first time?
How much of your day is spent reacting to issues?

Many people that experience these frustrations would comment that it is just a part of everyday business and that things always come up to change the project plan. This belief often stems from a lack of appreciation for project management fundamentals and a failure to understand what actions could drive your program up the project management maturity continuum. Project management, in general, is undervalued. No, it is not rocket science, but it does require a unique set of skills, and a frank assessment of the people that are being assigned the role of project manager.

The focus of this presentation is on why you should value project management. Benefits of a strong core of project managers will be discussed along with some tips and tools that even companies with mature project management programs will find valuable.
